New play ‘The Old Dark House’ will open in Wavertree at the start of Feb. Adapted from the 1932 American horror film of the same name, directed by James Whale and starring Boris Karloff (both of Frankenstein fame) it promises to be pretty darn terrifying, atmospheric, not for the feint hearted and lots of fun.
The play will be performed at two unique venues over four nights. The first and second performance will be at St Dunstans Church Earle Rd. The following two at the Williamson Tunnels. Locations were decided upon because of the unique atmosphere they both create. The audience will feel as though they were entering ‘The Old Dark House’ itself. Organisers said:
‘We felt that traditional theatres would not do this. We also wanted to bring theatre to venues that might not otherwise attract a theatre audience. ‘
Sounds good so far. The play follows a newly wed couple, that are forced to seek shelter in ‘The Old Dark House’ while honeymooning in the middle of the Welsh Countryside. The house is not what it seems. Those who appear friendly may turn out not to be so.
